Tom Loffman

Tom Loffman is the weekend meteorologist for KOVR 13. He joined KOVR 13 in April, 1987.

Tom has been doing weather on the air in Sacramento longer than any other weathercaster in Sacramento television history. He began his on-air weathercasting at KCRA in 1978, and moved to KOVR in 1987. Loffman also worked at KRON-TV in San Francisco and began his broadcasting career at WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Florida.

Tom has worked as a meteorological consultant to SMUD, and as a Meteorological Technician for the National Weather Service in Honolulu.

He is committed to improving the quality of science education in the Sacramento region and has given more than 500 talks to schools since 1980. In addition, Loffman wrote and published Sacramento's first weather book in 1986 called Tom Loffman's Weather Planner-Sacramento Edition.

In 1990 Tom wrote and published the Sacramento Weather Guide followed by the Travelers Weather Guide.

He is the first Sacramento weathercaster with his own Web page. It contains information of interest to other TV Weathercasters.

Loffman holds the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for television and has been a member of its Board of Broadcast Meteorology which qualifies other broadcast meteorologists for the Seal.

Tom graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in Climatology.
